Pairs well with
A fresh cutting cannot feed itself through roots it does not have yet, and seedlings are small and easy to over or under feed. Clonex Clone Solution, CCS on the label, is Growth Technology's complete nutrient for exactly that stage, made in Australia: all 12 essential minerals with added thiamine, pre-buffered so there is no pH to adjust, and free from sodium, chlorides and urea. It works four ways: as a root feed at 5ml per litre, as a 3ml per litre foliar mist for cuttings before they root, in water propagation jars, and as a drench for plants struggling after transplant. It is a nutrient, not a rooting hormone, so it pairs with a rooting gel rather than replacing one. Available in 250ml, 1L, 5L and 20L.

Grower's Tip
- Soak rockwool cubes or propagation plugs in CCS at 5ml per litre before you set the cuttings. The label lists it for medium soaking, and the cutting goes into a fed medium from day one.
- Mist unrooted cuttings at 3ml per litre on both sides of the leaves, in low light as Growth Technology directs.
- Cuttings are commonly run under 24 hours of light, but that is plant-specific and some varieties do better with a few hours of dark. Check what suits the plant you are propagating rather than treating any photoperiod as a rule.
- In water propagation, change the solution every week. Growth Technology's reason: it keeps nutrients available and stops bacteria building up in the jar.
- One cap holds 20ml, so a quarter of a cap in a litre of water is the 5ml general rate.
- Once cuttings have rooted and are growing away, move them onto a full feed for their type, such as a Focus line for houseplants and garden plants.
- Store the bottle somewhere cool and dark.
How To Use It
Pairs Well With
APVMA-registered rooting gel, 3 g/L IBA. Growth Technology's direction: gel first, CCS while roots develop.
Square Cubes by Eazy PlugPropagation plugs to soak in CCS before setting cuttings or sowing seed.
Cloning Station by SeaHawk24 or 48-site aeroponic propagator. Mix CCS into the reservoir at the root feeding rate.
Spray Mate by Higgins 2LFine-mist pressure sprayer for the 3ml per litre foliar feed on unrooted cuttings.
Rootzone by Growth TechnologyRoot biostimulant for the weeks after repotting or transplanting, when the plant is rebuilding roots.
Propagation GearTrays, domes, heat mats, plugs, propagation lights and tents: everything for striking cuttings and raising seedlings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CCS a rooting hormone?
No. CCS is a complete nutrient for cuttings and seedlings. The rooting hormone is Clonex gel. Growth Technology's direction is gel when the cutting is taken, then CCS while roots develop.
Can I use CCS for water propagation?
Yes. Use 5ml per litre of water in the jar and refresh it weekly to keep nutrients available and stop bacteria building up.
Can I spray CCS on cuttings?
Yes. Mix 3ml per litre and apply a fine mist to both leaf surfaces in low light. Growth Technology recommends it for cuttings before their roots establish.
Do I need to adjust the pH?
No. CCS is pre-buffered, so it goes straight from the measuring cup into the water.
Can I use it on seedlings?
Yes. The label describes it as a nutrient for cuttings and seedlings. Use 5ml per litre at each watering.
Does it help plants after transplanting?
Yes, that is one of Growth Technology's listed uses: 5ml per litre as a root drench or foliar spray for plants showing transplant stress.
What is in CCS?
All 12 essential minerals plus thiamine. The analysis is nitrate-nitrogen 1.73%, phosphorus 0.33% and potassium 2.16% w/v, with calcium, magnesium, sulfur and six trace elements. It contains no sodium, chlorides or urea.
What is the difference between CCS and Rootzone?
CCS is a nutrient for the propagation stage: cuttings and seedlings. Rootzone is an additive used with a nutrient for the rest of the plant's life. Growth Technology presents them as a pair: CCS for the start, Rootzone for the long haul.
